Possible Itinerary for Baltic Sea Sailing: Discover the Sailing Trip!

DAY 1 – Saturday
Come aboard and check out our “sample itinerary.” Most travelers arrive by car in Flensburg, while others take the train to Germany’s northernmost city. By 4:00 PM at the latest, everyone is at the harbor to organize and get to know each other. The group is relatively small, with about five to seven sailors, and you’ll set sail for the next few days. Today, you’ll go shopping together, discuss the route with the destination “Danish South Sea,” and after 5:00 PM, you’ll receive a safety briefing on board.

DAY 2 – Sunday
Today’s sailing trip takes you to Sønderborg on the island of Als, the gateway to your journey into the Danish South Sea. On this first leg of the trip, you’ll explore the Flensburg Fjord and catch glimpses of picturesque towns in the distance, along with scenic coastlines marked by steep cliffs and expansive beaches. In the evening, as you wind down the day with your fellow sailors, discover the historic town center of Sønderborg and admire the twilight descending over the water.

DAY 3 – Monday
From Sønderborg, you’ll sail to Lyø, a small Danish island south of Fåborg on Funen. As is often the case in the Baltic Sea, optimal wind conditions ensure a relaxing sailing holiday. Once on Lyø, enjoy a short walk through the picture-perfect idyll of the island, with its expansive hills and meadows offering a constantly changing view of neighboring islands like Avernakø. In the evening, you’ll wind down the day together on board, watching a beautiful sunset.

DAY 4 – Tuesday
From Lyø, you’ll sail a few nautical miles further northeast – the new destination of your trip is Funen’s second-largest city, Svendborg. The city combines various elements from your sailing journey, as it’s full of life: experience cultural insights, enjoy Danish hospitality, listen to local musicians, and indulge in the local cuisine in the evening – all under the motto “Hyggelige og hjemmelig atmosfære,” which means “Beautiful and cozy!” in Danish.

DAY 5 – Wednesday
Your sailing journey through the Danish South Sea takes you towards Copenhagen, to what was once the most important Danish city for seafaring. With around 2,000 inhabitants, Marstal may not be the largest town, but it is a historically significant fishing village, often referred to as a “maritime gem.” Enjoy the cozy and charming atmosphere as you stroll through Marstal’s alleys and immerse yourself in the authentic world of sailors. Your skipper has a tip: explore the island of Ærø and the area around Marstal on foot or by bike.

DAY 6 – Thursday
On our way to Germany, we make a detour into the Schlei, the arm of the Baltic Sea. Specifically, we head to Schleimünde, a place marking the meeting point of the Baltic Sea and the Schlei, also known as the Pilot Island. Schleimünde is only accessible by water. The sky turns yellow-orange as you tie the lines at the harbor. Let the special atmosphere of this small “island” sink in and relax on the rocky beach by the Baltic Sea or one of the small, wild sandy beaches along the Schlei.

DAY 7 – Friday
From the Schlei, you head back into the Flensburg Fjord, and the sailing trip is coming to an end. On this active tour through the Baltic Sea, you’ve contributed a lot and learned much about sailing. All the maneuvers are second nature now as you tie the lines back in the starting harbor of Flensburg around 4:00 PM. You’re proud of yourself and “your” little crew. Together, you’ve cooked, chatted, and discovered beautiful islands. Depending on the crew’s agreement, excursions to other islands like Møn were also possible. It was simply sailing among like-minded people.

DAY 8 – Saturday
Why does your Baltic Sea sailing trip go by so quickly? You’d love to extend your holiday time in the Danish South Sea. Instead, you reluctantly leave the yacht with the other sailors by 9:00 AM. “What are you doing next?” one of them asks. “Let’s head to the harbor and the long beach promenade!” And perhaps you’ll add an extra day in Germany’s northernmost city, Flensburg. It’s definitely worth it!

Arrival and departure
Your Baltic Sea sailing trip usually starts at the harbor in Flensburg. You can arrive by car, but there are also various train connections to Flensburg. From there, you can walk or take a taxi or bus for the final stretch directly to the marina. Ideally, all crew members will meet at the marina between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, although a later arrival is also possible. In advance, you can get to know each other in a WhatsApp group, which we’ll create in the week before the trip, and coordinate arrival times. You’ll receive detailed harbor information in plenty of time before your trip starts. Now, it’s time to say “Lines loose!” and off you go!
On Friday, your yacht will return to the starting harbor between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, so that you can disembark by 9:00 AM on Saturday after breakfast.
Sailing the Baltic Sea: Sun, Wind, and Waves
What does it take for the perfect sailing holiday? In any case, the trio “sun, wind, and waves,” along with relaxing on the beach and strolling along the coast. And on your Baltic Sea sailing trip, you get an extra treat because the area offers far more sights than most other places. What’s also great is that sailing the Baltic Sea is suitable for beginners, as well as experienced sailors who want to improve their sailing skills.
For example, there are the Hanseatic cities of Rostock, Lübeck, and Stralsund, which are especially known for their architectural landmarks and over 800 years of history. Rostock is not only a Hanseatic city but also a university town, offering, besides old churches, monasteries, and majestic city walls, an incomparable view of the water from the Kanonsberg. Three old cannons still serve as reminders that the Kanonsberg once played an important role as a defense point for the harbor entrance. Large parts of the city’s fortifications (from the second half of the 13th century) are still preserved. You can visit over 450 meters of city walls, gates, towers, Wiekhäuser (a special form of defensive building), and ramparts. The historical adventure is definitely something to enjoy while sailing.

Welcome aboard!
One thing is for sure: On your yacht charter holiday with a skipper, you’ll experience unforgettable days in the sailing area around Flensburg, heading towards the Danish South Sea. Whether you’re an active and experienced sailor or simply a crew member experiencing the magic of sailing – come aboard! Forget about everyday life for a while! You’ll sail through the Flensburg Fjord towards Sønderborg, up to small Danish islands like Lyø and Avernakø, and through the Svendborgsund towards Svendborg, before slowly heading back towards Flensburg. On the way home, we’ll pass the charming fishing village of Marstal and make a stop at the mouth of the Schlei, a small inlet of the Baltic Sea in northern Schleswig-Holstein.

Various possibilities
Numerous sailing trips in the Baltic Sea make the sailing area so popular for a sailing holiday. For example, you can set sail towards Kiel (especially known for the Kiel Week), sail in the Lübeck Bay, or start from Heiligenhafen. The possibilities to explore the most beautiful and well-known cities on the Baltic Sea by water are endless.
Enjoy the sun and nature.
Exploring the Baltic Sea with a sailing yacht means experiencing pure nature in one of the most beautiful sailing areas in the world.

In short: Welcome to the sea! The Baltic Sea sailing areas are characterized by great variety: the nature of the German Baltic coast features steep cliffs, forests, islands, and peninsulas, while the Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein boasts wide fjord bays, and you’ll find various headlands before Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Did you know that Fischland-Darß-Zingst is Germany’s most beautiful peninsula on the Baltic Sea? So, set course towards freedom on your sailing boat. From the calm inland lakes to the open sea, families with children during the high season from June to August will enjoy it just as much as experienced sailors with an SKS sailing certificate.
The Baltic Sea is beautiful: relaxation begins with the architecture.
The fascination of sailing on the Baltic Sea is also reflected in the spa architecture. From 1793 to 1913, many buildings in this style were constructed along the German Baltic coast. So, the Baltic Sea is not only known for relaxation, blue-and-white beach chairs, snack stands, and nearby shopping opportunities, but also for its historical spa architecture. The famous Baltic Sea resorts on Rügen, such as Binz, Sellin, and the fishing village of Vitt, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, are also worth seeing. The so-called “spa architecture” refers to the architectural style, mostly in white, that is characteristic of the Baltic Sea resorts. Heiligendamm in Mecklenburg is considered the first seaside resort in continental Europe and the founder of spa architecture. The style quickly spread: in the early 19th century to Pomerania, with the seaside resort of Putbus-Lauterbach on Rügen. Similar buildings can also be found along the North Sea coast.
Nature Highlights in Denmark
Your sailing trip with a charter yacht can naturally take you to the Danish Baltic Sea, or rather to the Danish South Sea, which is the German name for the Danish part of the Baltic Sea. Sailing here offers a unique fascination: “Breathtaking,” “one-of-a-kind,” “unique” – superlatives are always tricky. But when describing Denmark’s landscape, they are simply unavoidable. Because in Denmark, you just want to be outdoors, in the fresh air, and discover your own personal “nature wonder” amidst the diverse landscapes. There’s plenty of opportunity to do so. First, of course, are the chalk cliffs of Møns Klint. The beech forest and the rock formations are among the most visited attractions in Denmark. The view from up there is truly spectacular, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that it brings a bit of Caribbean feeling. From there, you can walk down the steps to the sea and then splash around in the crystal-clear waters, snorkeling along the coast.

Travel to the Baltic Sea
A sailing trip on the Baltic Sea is particularly attractive because of the short distance from Germany, making the Danish sailing area especially popular for short getaways. For example, around Lolland, the region offers a mix of nature, city life, and unique experiences – like the lively atmosphere in Svendborg. A visit is accompanied by atmospheric music, making it a truly memorable experience both to see and hear!
